CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Google has launched Gemini 4 Argon, its newest flagship artificial intelligence designed for sophisticated professional applications. The company announced Argon on Sept. 30 as the leading model within the Gemini 4 series. It is capable of supporting intricate software development, financial analysis, legal research, and cybersecurity operations. Additionally, the model can manage extended reasoning and execution sequences. Access is initially restricted, with select cybersecurity defenders utilizing Argon through the Fairwind Program.

Argon significantly raises the maximum token output to 1 million, a notable jump from the previous cap of 64,000 tokens. This enhancement enables the model to handle longer tasks without requiring multiple separate sessions. The introductory API pricing begins at $2 per million input tokens. Output tokens are billed at $10 per million during the same period. Inputs stored in cache qualify for a 95% discount. Later, prices are expected to increase to $4 for input tokens and $20 for output tokens.
Currently, thousands of employees are utilizing Argon for coding, research, and writing assignments. Internal teams have tested the model on projects involving data center optimization and large-scale software migrations. One initiative employed Argon agents to support C and C++ migrations to Rust. Another focused on memory profiling across data centers. This optimization work resulted in freeing over 300 tebibytes of memory. Continued analysis of the same systems has also revealed additional potential savings.
Argon enhances capabilities for extended technical and reasoning tasks
Google reported a 77.9% score for Argon on DeepSWE v1.1, which assesses performance in extended software engineering tasks. The company also published results related to finance, legal work, automation, and multimodal functions. Argon was developed by Google DeepMind as part of the broader Gemini model family. It combines advanced coding tools with long-context reasoning and multimodal processing capabilities. Its increased output capacity is designed to support workflows requiring multiple interconnected steps before completing a task.
Cybersecurity remains a key focus during the initial rollout. Argon can detect, verify, and patch software vulnerabilities within authorized defensive environments. Wiz is leveraging the model through its Scan for Good initiative, which aims to identify security flaws in public infrastructure. Google also reported a 68% score on CWE-bench v1, a benchmark focused on vulnerability remediation. Selected security teams can also use Argon in environments without standard cyber guardrails when working on approved defensive security projects.
Limited public access planned during phased deployment
Google has not yet announced a specific date for broad public availability of Gemini 4 Argon. The company is releasing the model gradually, collecting feedback from early users along the way. It also takes part in a voluntary U.S. government process that offers pre-release access to cutting-edge AI models. In the future, access will expand to developers, enterprise clients, and general consumers. Paid API users and Google AI Ultra subscribers are expected to gain priority access, although no official launch date has been provided.
Google has also clarified that it does not intend to release Gemini 3.5 Pro. This model was expected before Gemini 4 was introduced. Currently, Argon is the flagship model optimized for demanding reasoning and professional workloads. Other Gemini models remain available to meet different performance and pricing requirements. For now, Gemini 4 Argon is primarily focused on trusted testers, cybersecurity partners, and limited early-access programs, while wider availability has yet to commence.
